The project, “Hunt for Europe: Using Language Simulator in Culture & Language Integrated Learning,” addresses, among others, a cornerstone of the program, which is multilingualism and being united in diversity. Apart from addressing the issue of learning at least 2 foreign languagues, the project will also teach the students the cultural diffferences of the participating country through an interactive game.

That the project uses advanced computer-assisted learning method, with voice recognition capacity for both language learning and cultural understanding will improve the language and culture skills not only of people in the labour foorce, but the ordinary EU citizen as well. A digital immersive language-learning platform will be developed, using content integrated language learning method (CLIL). The basis of this method is that the content to be learned is taught in a language different from the native language of the learners. Through the CLIL-method the learner will both 1) gain content knowledge about culture and history and 2) develop or enhance their language skills.

This serious game “Hunt for Europe” will be able to support individuals in acquiring and developing an increased level of competences mentioned previously and in addition, offer an opportunity to increase the individual levels of digital skills.

The combination of teaching cultural understanding and language skills will enhance the players’/learners’ intercultural competences. Furthermore the historical content will contribute to a sense of being a “European”. The thread that will bind the 6 stories and games and languages is: every European’s search for European identity. Therefore the game is called “Hunt for Europe,” a Greek Goddess, the mother of King Minos of Crete, and for whom the continent Europe was named. “Hunt for Europe” is every European’s search for his /her European identity and values. For migrants and refugees, this will assist them in ther language learning, as well as help them get an understanding of Europe.

Thus this platform addresses the need to develop innovative practice and learning methods, and the need to have more digital based solutions in learning.

Aside from offering this platform to various learning institutions, access to the platform is free for all, hence offering free accessibility to a formal (if accessed through an institution) or non-formal learning environment hereby enhancing the opportunities for all to acquire foreign languages and cultural understanding. This can help make European mobilities more efficient and effective.

The project also contributes to the social equity and inclusion priorities of the Erasmus+ program as the partners are primarily working with migrants and refugees. Likewise, because this platform can be used on a self-study basis, people from all walks of life and those living in remote areas can easily have access to the platform.
