Vardakeios School of Ermoupolis announces the beginning of its cooperation as a partner in the two-year transnational European program within the framework of Erasmus + entitled: "i DIGital Stories- Stories Educational Learning Facilities". The action is coordinated by Diciannove Societa Cooperativa (Italy) and partners are: Anthropolis (Hungary), Danmar ComputersLLC (Poland), Liverpool World Center (United Kingdom), Zoe Gestione Servizi Culturali Scarl (Italy).
For the Vardakeio School, this collaboration comes after 11 years of educational programs aimed at intergenerational and multicultural groups and gives it the opportunity to disseminate and expand its experience at national and European level.
The purpose of the collaboration is the use of Digital Story Telling as an educational tool, where adult learners (Greeks and immigrants) tell their personal "story". Through this tool learners have an active role in the learning process, instead of passively receiving information from trainers, they shape and develop the training program and material according to their needs and priorities. Under the i DIGital Stories program, the main theme in which the training workshops will be developed will be the employment situation (employment / unemployment), responding to current social needs, and the need to hear social voices (unemployed, immigrants) that labor market conditions may marginalize them.
The following actions will be taken during the implementation of the transnational program i DIGital Stories:
- writing a methodological guide on the use of Digital Storytelling as an educational tool
- training of the teaching staff of the partners in the method of Digital Narration
- application of Digital Storytelling in the educational process of the partners, organization of Digital Storytelling workshops at local level
- creating an educational toolkit (tool-kit) with the feedback that will result from the implementation of the new tool
- creation and promotion of an electronic platform, for the development of an educational community with the aim of exchanging relevant educational methods, practices and materials
- local events for the promotion and dissemination of educational material and program results
The project “I dig stories – Stories Educational Learning Facilities” has been funded by the Eu Commission, Indire Italian National Agency within the Erasmus+ programme Cooperation for innovation & the exchange of good practices, Strategic Partnerships for adult education.
This project idea evolved from the needs analysis of a Eu population ever evolving under the contribution from new populations, arriving or in transit, & for the large diffusion of digital media.
We developed a project that unities the new digital educational tools with the amusement for the discover of the emotional & creative groups dynamics, which allow the participants to emerge from their condition of social invisibility.
We are in fact truly convinced that giving back dignity to individuals is a basic & substancial step to build up any possible pathway to inclusion.
Subsequently, we decided that Digital StoryTelling (DST) was the tool to cover these needs & succeed our aims. DST refers to a short form of digital film-making that allows everyday people to share aspects of their life story. DST is a relatively new term which describes the new practice of ordinary people who use digital tools to tell their personal ‘story’, presented in compelling and emotionally engaging formats.
One can define digital storytelling as the process by which diverse people share their life story & creative imaginings with others, over the web & other electronic distribution systems. In DST participants take an active role in learning, rather than passively receiving information; they become knowledge creators, producers, editors, evaluators & knowledge inter-actors.
